Puffing Billy Railway is Australia’s Premier Preserved Steam Railway, located in the Dandenong Ranges. This century-old steam train continues to run on its original mountain track from Belgrave to Gembrook.
Step back in time at Australia’s favourite steam train: Puffing Billy, located in the Dandenong Ranges, only 40 kilometres or one hour east of Melbourne. The excitement begins from the moment you arrive at the station with the sight of the historic locomotives, the smell of the steam and the sound of the train’s whistle.
The excursion trains depart multiple times daily (excluding Christmas Day) from the historic Belgrave Station and Lakeside Station.
After boarding Belgrave Station, Puffing Billy chugs away and you and your family can take in the spectacular scenery of the beautiful Sherbrooke Forest, a superb temperate rainforest. Within minutes, you will cross Puffing Billy’s most famous landmark – the iconic Monbulk Creek trestle bridge. Or, escape the crowds and enjoy a family outing aboard Puffing Billy starting from Lakeside (Emerald Lake Park) to Gembrook, where you will visit the beautiful quaint town after travelling over four timber trestle bridges.
Alternatively, Puffing Billy offers daily Steam & Cuisine Luncheon (departs daily at 12:30 pm, excluding Victorian Public Holidays). Be transported back to the golden era of train travel and enjoy your meal as Puffing Billy huffs, puffs and whistles its way through the forests and fern gullies of the Dandenong Ranges.
On selected weekends, experience the Dandenong Ranges at dusk from the beautifully restored first-class dining carriages of Puffing Billy. Live music and white linen set the tone for an evening that oozes 1920’s charm and sophistication. Beverages are available onboard the train, including locally produced wine and beer.
